Jung Hwa Seo

  • Professor
  • University of Seoul, South Korea

Dr. Seo obtained her Diploma (Magna Cum Laude) in Physics from the Dong-A University in 2001. She started her research in the laboratory of Professor Chung Nam Whang at the Yonsei University and received Ph.D. degree in Physics in 2007. Dr. Seo joined the reserach groups of Professor Guillermo C. Bazan, Thuc-Quyen Nguyen and Alan J. Heeger (Nobel Laureate) in the CPOS (Center for Polymers and Organic Solids) at the University California Santa Barbara as a post-doctoral researcher. From 2011 to 2022, she worked the Dong-A University as an assistant and associate professor in the Department of Materials Physics. Dr. Seo is currently a full professor in the Department of Physics at University of Seoul. Her research focuses on the fabrication of organic electronic devices and the studies of their electronic properties. The devices of current interest are organic and perovskite solar cells, organic field-effect transistors, organic light emitting devices, sensors and synaptic electronic devices.

Research impacts

Prof. Jung Hwa Seo is a material physicist with leading expertise in organic semiconductors and conjugated polyelectrolytes for optoelectronics devices such as organic light-emitting field-effect transistors, solar cells, and sensors. She has contributed to the field by controlling the size and direction of the dipole moment by selecting various counterions and establishing in-depth research on the energy structures via various photoelectron spectroscopic technologies.

She has published >130 papers in refereed scientific journals and is a co-inventor of > 7 patents. Her current h-index is 46 with i-10 index of 107 and total citations of > 11,110 (Google Scholar). She was selected as one of the world’s top 2% researchers by Elsevier Korea (2020-2025).
